Newburgh Elementary School Reviews

I have just enrolled the last of my three children at Newburgh Elementary. My first child started NES since 1994. I appreciate that the teachers have always been receptive to suggestions that I have given them to help my children succeed in school. It is important to remember that all schools have teachers that need to retire or quit. NES is not an exception. However, overall I would say that NES rates high with teacher-student-parent communication! I appreciate the hard work from the teachers! Melissa Gwaltney

I was a student at Newburgh Elementary and don't no how to respond to the feed back of the parents. If every parent was to try and live one day in the shoes of a teacher I think u would feel differently. It isn't a bad school it is just a little more tough.. The recess thing is not really that big of a deal. They really don't let u miss ur recess unless u didn't put enough effort into the work. They only make u watch the other kids play outside is if they r on recess duty. I saw NES as tough and some of the teachers were not that nice. Overall the school was ok. a rating 6 and a half on a 10 point scale. 10 being the highest. If u want a good school for ur child I would strongly consider Chandler Elementary. Chandler is great!

I think NES has a few teachers that are not 'leadership quality' and I think that they should revise the policies for punishement that the children receive.

We have been extremely pleased with our daughter's experience at Newburgh Elementary. It lives up to its reputation as a school that cares about each child and as a school that has an incredibly active parent/teacher group. My daughter's interests and talents have been encouraged, and she is a more confident student now. The principal is an active presence in children's lives there, and the teachers' committment to involving the family in their child's education is encouraging. It will be hard to top kindergarten teacher Sandy Jones for a teacher, but we're looking forward to the next year at NES to see how they do it.

Both of my boys have been enrolled at NES since K. One is in 3rd and the other in 2nd. As a parent I am pleased with how the faculty go out of their way to make sure that all students receive an extremely well rounded education. My youngest son has several learning dissabilities and they go out of their way to accomadate his special needs. His grades have climbed dramatically because of their dedication. Nes offers many activities for the students as well as the city of Newburgh. NES also offers the parents the opportunity to volunteer in many areas of the school and go out of their way to award the parents who take an active live in their childrens education. I would rate this school as 10 on a scale of 1-10. Your child will benefit greatly to attend NES

Both of my children suffer from low self esteem thanks to Newburgh Elem. In the 3rd grade recess will be taken from a child if they recieve a D or F on a paper. Parents have complained but the teacher will tell the children that it will do no good for parents to complain, and it doesn't. Many of the kids that are being punished for low grades were once happy kids ready to go to school every morning with a smile. But once they go below a C on any paper, their recess is taken. Its sad that my once happy children are now dreading going to school, because they know they will be punished by taking their recess away. Some teachers go as far as letting the kids go outside to watch their peers play. This school takes no control over what teachers can do.
